Words have Power. But Word Curses Can Be Broken through Christ.
Have you ever walked into a room only to find that you are surrounded my words you can’t see but you can feel as others suddenly get quiet seeing you approach?
Or maybe you have had someone directly say to you that you are never going to amount to anything, you aren’t going to accomplish your goals, it’s your fault you are not succeeding, your hair (or other body parts) is too nappy, you are too short, you are such a failure etc. The words can hit your spirit like a sharp sword, ready to dismantle your confidence and tear you down to the pit of depression.
There are different types of words- words of encouragement, joy, celebration, peace, uplifting, inspiration, and challenge. But there are also words of discouragement, belittling, hopelessness, contempt, condemnation and depression.
Negative words cloaked in a joke can hit you just as hard as words that were said in a storm of passionate rage.
Words are so powerful that they can tap into your identity, not just your character and try to keep you in your past.
Words of shame, contempt, from the wrong spirit, words of hatred and rejection are designed to cut you down, steal your calling and destroy your relationships. They are designed to take you out of a place of peace into a place of frustration and self hatred.
So when someone comes at you with words that try to define who you are remember you are facing a spiritual war. You are not fighting people alone but you are in a battle with a real enemy who wants to steal from you, kill you and your purpose and destroy you and your future.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”John 10:10 NIV
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”Ephesians 6:12 NIV
If you and I want peace, we have to renounce and denounce these words so they don’t keep bothering us later on and keep putting us down, rolling through your mind repeatedly. We have to overcome these words because they can affect us in the spiritual realm and we can start to believe them even though they are not true.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.”2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NRSV
We overcome when we go to the secret place and overcome through who God says we are rather than what others say. There is nothing wrong with saying outloud that something is not true of you in the moment as well.
We are taught in the Christian world to turn the other cheek and just take it, but speaking out loud so that person and the enemy behind their words can hear truth is not a sin. We can say to the spirit behind the words “That is not true of me. I cast that down in Jesus name. I will Not come into agreement with that word over my life.”
This can be said verbally after the incident. During the incident there is nothing wrong with saying. “That may be your opinion, but it is not true of me.” This can be said firmly, but still in love.
Words try to attach to you and your seed in your womb when you are pregnant. They try to attach to your children that are already born when you receive them in your heart. They try to disrupt your family relationships by taking you from peace and making you snappy, short or lacking in confidence.
They are wiles meant to unravel and disrupt your life. You have to resist these words and overcome them in the spirit one by one.
You know how I know? Because multiple times this week I have been tested with people either jokingly saying words over my life that are not true of me or people directly dumping words that aren’t true of me into my spirit.
I have then had to go back and dismantle the enemy’s plan for my life while continuing to love those who have said these words. The truth is they may not even have known their words were that crushing or that satan would try to use those words over and over again afterwards to accuse me.
When you feel accused and wrestle with accusation after a conversation, it is so important to STOP, PRAY, LISTEN & MEDITATE.
“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”Revelation 12:10 KJV
- Stop– Don’t keep moving on as if you weren’t affected or infected
- Pray– Be Honest with God about how you feel
- Listen– To the Holy Spirit’s Opinion
- Meditate– On Truth, sit still for 20 minutes in silence meditating on one word from Scripture that defines who you really are. If your mind wanders, gently move it back to that word until you feel peace.
As you follow this as a lifestyle you will be able to make sure that Every word that comes at you does not come into you nor into your life.
Every word coming at you doesn’t need to reside in you. 🕊Jade Lee
Here is a template prayer to break word curses and keep you and your family safe:
Father, I thank you that you are in control of my life, but I also recognize that I am in a spiritual war.
I recognize that not everyone is for me, even though I choose to love my enemies and those who unknowingly harm me with their words. I am called to love while being wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove.
Give me wisdom to deal with words that cut me down on various levels- one word or conversation could harm me physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally in one strike.
I recognize that you gave me the authority to dismantle negative words meant to unravel into bad situations in my life with your instruction to guard my heart with all diligence for out of it flow the issues of life.
I therefore take on this charge to be a gatekeeper of my mind, my emotions and my heart for out of that internal space all the other issues of my life flow.
The enemy knows this so he sends fiery darts to that location to tear me down and bring ruin to the areas I care about most and you want me to succeed in.
Right now I bring every fiery dart down with the truth of your Word. I put on the armor of God according to your Word:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV
I choose to forgive, to love and I will Not walk in bitterness, I release the person that was used to speak these words over my life and I choose to only accept your covering words, I choose to only accept your words of authority over my life.
(Now get specific)
I cast down the following words and imaginations that do not come into agreement with who you say I am scripturally and your heart for me or my future according to 2 Corinthians 10:4-5:
When (person’s name) said I am or will be (say specific words formed against you) a fiery dart 🎯 hit my heart. I have been feeling the sting of it and it may be tempting to believe it, but I choose to violently resist those words right now. I break all agreement with the words that I am (say specific words) and I break agreement with those words affecting me, my marriage, my children, my ministry, my career, success in other areas or how others treat me in the future.
I break the enemy’s plan for this to create a spirit of rejection in my life that causes others to curse me with their words as well.
I break the shame that has come into my life because of these words. I choose to believe that I did not deserve these words and I deserve to be treated as one accepted in the beloved according to Ephesians 1:6:
“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
You have accepted me into the beloved and that is who I am, I am loved by you deeply!
I move into this space of identity and divorce ties with anything that does not come into agreement with that place of dignity.
I am a woman (or man) of dignity, worthy to be treated with honor and love. I seal that with your acceptance and return to your loving arms right now.
Finally, I am declaring that no weapon formed against me shall prosper according to Isaiah 54:17 and I will win this battle because I am more than a conquer according to Romans 8:37. I have hope in a future full of favor and success because I know that is your plan for me according to Jeremiah 29:11 and all these things will work out for my good according to Romans 8:28.
I plead the blood of Jesus over my life, mind, body, spirit, emotions, situations, circumstances and issues that would affect me personally and relationally.
Let your will be done and your kingdom come to this earth (which includes in me).
In Jesus’ all powerful name.
P.S. Remember the promise in the attack:
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10 KJV
Jesus came to give us Abundant Life so we can and will win through this Promise! Let’s go take our victory!!!
“And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee. And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee. The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:”
Deuteronomy 28:2-13 KJV
